Science Communication & Outreach

I’m an enthusiastic science communicator and believe that explaining my research and other science ideas in accessible ways is incredibly important, particularly as my research is primarily publicly funded. Time and energy permitting, I try to take part in outreach activities when I can, particularly those which take place online. To contact me about an outreach project you think I would like to be involved with, please contact me here.

During my time as a physics researcher, I regularly shared snapshots of my ‘researcher life’ on Instagram which were accompanied by captions exploring my research and physics concepts for a non-expert audience. Here is a collection of my quantum explainer-style posts on Instagram. My social media presence has since shifted to focus more on education and outreach as I pivoted away from physics research and into a ‘science, technology and society’ practitioner-researcher role, focussing on quantum education, public engagement and workforce development.

For longer-form writing, I tend to post on my blog and I am also experimenting with creating youtube videos on subjects from physics to inclusion and accessibility in STEM. I am particularly fond of sharing my work on social media as it allows for conversations and discussions with a wide variety of people. After all, science communication is a two-way street.

As well as running outreach events and projects, I also do writing, speaking, consulting and other media activities.
